When your business is growing in numbers you will notice a few things other than an office space filling up. In the last 3 months I've recently expanded my own team members and as a leader, it is important that you do everything you can to help your team become more confident in their skills.
At Finder.com.au mentoring is more than just telling your team what to do and how to do it. The relationship is much more complex than that. As a leader and a mentor to your team you need to understand their goals and passions to bring out their full potential.
Here are a few tips that I have learned when it comes to handling the growth of your employees.
Understand their goals
The key is to understand the goals of your team members and what they want to achieve. If they have been in your company for a few months, it may be worth having a review and identifying 3 goals they want to accomplish.
I pay close attention to this because you can identify the core strength of your team member and direct them to work they are willing to do and go above and beyond with. I found it successful in my team as this process encourages team members to work towards goals that align to their personal values.
Encourage ideas
When you notice a growth in a team member it is important to welcome their ideas and push for more. Not only does it build confidence in the employee, it encourages other team members to participate and bounce off the idea. This is your A team and you have your A+ players, take on their ideas and guide them to success.
Delegating tasks associated to their strength
Each team member has their own skill set, some may excel in a particular task more than others and that is fine. As a leader you need to identify the roles in which individual team members excel, and delegate to them to be more efficient and continue to improve their skill set.
Supporting your team
you need to inspire confidence in your team. As a leader you must support them and understand what they're unsure about. Give your team the trust that you can do it and let them become confident
